The Network Architecture and Management Group of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, University of Patras, Greece offers three fully funded PhDs in the area of Next Generation Internet. Details for each are given below.
1. Position Code: ΝΑΜ-PhD1-NFV-VNF:
Title: Designing and implementing network services for 5G, NFV, and SDN networks.
Short Description: The PhD candidate will work on methods for efficient and fully automated VNF specification and deployment for network services that will be tested and demonstrated in actual 5G/NFV/SDN enabled smart cities infrastructures .
Academic Qualifications: MSc in Computer Science, or Electrical/Computer Engineering, very good knowledge in network architectures and protocol programming and experience in linux programming.
2. Position Code: ΝΑΜ-PhD2-NFV-ML
Title: Machine Learning in network management
Short Description: The PhD candidate will devise novel techniques of AI such as machine learning and data mining applicable to management of 5G/NFV/SDN networks and corresponding.
Qualifications required: MSc in Computer Science, or Electrical/Computer Engineering, very good knowledge in network architectures and management and some experience in machine learning and data mining. A good mathematical background is considered a plus.
3. Position Code: ΝΑΜ-PhD2-NetCS:
Title: Network Controlled Systems in Smart Cities.
Short Description: Control systems comprised of sensors, actuators and digital controllers are key elements of Cyber-Physical Systems. In the context of a smart city these are distributed in a large geographical area e.g. a smart city. In this context, the PhD candidate will study how distributed control techniques are affected by adverse conditions such as delays, packet losses etc. These techniques will be deployed and validated in an IoT based smart city infrastructure using NFV technologies.
Academic Qualifications: MSc in Computer Science, or Electrical/Computer Engineering, very good knowledge in networks, embedded systems and automated control and proven programming skills. Qualifications such as distributed systems, optimization theory and robust control will be considered a plus. High level of proficiency in both written and spoken English (Greek language is a plus, but it is not required).
Interested candidates should send their CV to Prof Spyros Denazis (sdena [at] upatras.gr) indicating in the subject of their email the code for the position they are interested in.
